Uber – Your on-demand Private Driver

Who never had any issue finding a taxi in Paris?

Everyone who tried to take a cab in the middle of the night sees what we are talking about…

This is why Uber was created. But what is this? It is a service originally from the US with the idea to deliver a private driver.

How it works? You download the free application on your mobile phone and you register by entering your personnal data as well as your credit card details.

The day you need a taxi, you geotag yourself. The application indicates where is the nearest cab and the estimated time before the arrival of a driver.

You click on Order and you receive a SMS of confirmation with the name of your driver.

Inside the cab, you will find bottles of water, magazines, candies,… And during rainy days, the driver escorts you to the car with an umbrella.

At the end of the journey, you rate the driver (from 1 to 5 stars) and the amount of the journey appears on your mobile. A few minutes after, you receive a detailed invoice. Indeed, you do not need any cash with this service.

The downsides to this service : the journey is a little more expensive than a taxi (around 30%), and unapprochable if you want to go to an airport (100€ to Orly, 120€ to Roissy). And finally, the drivers are not allowed to take the bus lanes as they are not taxi drivers: an aspect not to overlook a very busy weekday, for example.
